Greenway Medical Technologies Advances Patient-Provider Benefits

Greenway's PrimeSuite Provides Compatible Health Information Exchange with Microsoft HealthVault at HIMSS Demonstration

March 2, 2010, Atlanta, Ga. ? Greenway Medical Technologies, provider of the fully-integrated electronic health record (EHR), practice management and interoperability solution PrimeSuite®, is demonstrating a seamless data transfer solution from its flagship EHR into Microsoft HealthVault, an online personal health management platform.

The demonstration, titled "Greenway and HealthVault: Secure, Centralized and Accessible Health,? is scheduled for Wednesday, March 3 at 12:30 p.m. EST at the Microsoft booth (#6733) during the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual conference at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

HealthVault is designed to put consumers in control of their health by providing a central place for them to gather, store and manage their health records, as well as share that information with physicians, caretakers and family members. It also enables consumers to upload data from home health and fitness devices and offers a variety of third-party health services that help people better manage their health

"We are proud to be part of this interoperability demonstration and of this relationship with HealthVault,? said Greenway President Tee Green. "The time is now to further patient-provider interaction and communication through PrimeSuite-enabled practices, and HealthVault allows a centralized and portable solution on a scale that can truly advance this country's journey toward a national health information network. This interaction between Health IT innovators, providers and patients is a major step toward comprehensive and coordinated care.?

Through PrimeSuite's use of standard data exchange language such as the Continuity of Care Document (CCD) and Continuity of Care Record (CCR) ? which are also standard data exchange requirements in meaningful use proposals ? providers can comply with patient requests and seamlessly transfer health records, prescription history, updated labs, discharge summaries and complete wellness and disease management recommendations into an individual patient's HealthVault. The information can then be shared and built at the discretion of each individual.

"Enabling physicians to transfer health information into a patient's HealthVault account is a critical step in helping individuals build long-term and comprehensive health histories that can be shared with family and a trusted network of caregivers,? said David Cerino, general manager, Microsoft Health Solutions Group. "This empowers individuals to become more active partners in coordinating their care to drive better outcomes.?

About Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc.

Greenway Medical Technologies Donates Electronic Health Record, Clinical Research and Revenue Cycle Solutions to Northern Kentucky University

Curriculum Initiatives Further University's Leadership Role in Creating National Health IT Workforce

- The U.S. Bureau of Labor projects a 47 percent increase in Health IT job needs by the end of 2012.

- The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) is sponsoring programs to train 10,000 new Health IT professionals.

- The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) announced $80 million in separate higher education grants last November to train Health IT professionals.

- The Health Informatics graduate program at Northern Kentucky University (NKU) is one of the nation's largest, and the university is home to the Healthcare Interoperability (HCI) Research Laboratory.

- NKU is merging grant funds obtained within the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) with Greenway's solutions to create two certificate programs and related usage throughout the health informatics and health professions curricula.

February 26, 2010, Carrollton, Ga. ? Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc. is providing its integrated electronic health record (EHR), practice management and interoperability solution PrimeSuite®; clinical trials and research analytics solution PrimeResearch ?; and revenue cycle management solution PrimeRCM® to Northern Kentucky University.

While the ONC and other agencies are making major investments in advancing healthcare technology training and an expanded workforce, current university and college curricula lacks leading edge Health IT solutions.

Northern Kentucky University has one of the largest and most progressive graduate programs in Health Informatics in the nation. Greenway's donation of industry leading HIT solutions will allow NKU to merge programs within its College of Health Professions and College of Informatics to provide

training for all clinical students, and make the new programs available to other institutions through programs being established by ONC. The university plans to begin the implementation of Greenway's solutions by March 15.

The use of Greenway's integrated solutions is allowing NKU to use Workforce Investment Board (WIB) grant funds obtained within ARRA legislation to create Healthcare Technology and Business Process Analysis programs within the two colleges, which will, for example, make Greenway's automated solutions accessible to 750 nursing students and 200 Allied Health students.

The university's HCI lab will research simulation models of cost savings attributable to healthcare information exchange and interoperability, while a related project plans to create a virtual medical center demonstrating how a fully-functional EHR solution integrates with patient care.

"The interaction of informatics and nursing students using Greenway's Health IT software gives the students the ability to manage illness and technology to the fullest possible extent, just when technology is a critical part of today's healthcare,? said Denise Robinson, dean of the College of Health Professions.

"The healthcare industry is increasingly turning to technological innovation to improve patient care, reduce costs and create a national healthcare infrastructure,? said Greenway President Tee Green. "Greenway is proud to play its part in creating a skilled healthcare technology workforce through academic institutions. Based on Northern Kentucky University's informatics and healthcare foundations, we are honored to provide the means to expand these capabilities.?

Greenway is also represented in an academic Health IT panel discussion at the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference in Atlanta. Titled, "Three Perspectives on the Impact of ARRA on IT Education,? the panel is led by Justin Barnes, Greenway vice president of marketing, corporate development and government affairs, and representatives from <?xml:namespace prefix = st2 /><st2:sn w:st="on">St.</SN> <st2:middlename w:st="on">Rose</MIDDLENAME> <st2:sn w:st="on">Hospital</SN> in Hayward, Calif., and the University of Missouri School of Medicine's Health Management and Informatics Department. The panel is scheduled for February 28 at 2:15 p.m. in room C205 of the Georgia World Congress Center.

Northern Kentucky University is located seven miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio, and is an accredited, four-year public university with more than 50 graduate offerings for its more than 15,000 students.

In addition to the creation of two new academic programs and initiatives within NKU's HCI lab, Greenway's solutions are leading to the creation of new coursework and enhancements to existing studies:

- Health Information Databases, using PrimeSuite capabilities to examine information and technical security, efficiency best practices and real-world demonstrations of the range of interoperable EHR databases.

- Health Informatics ROI, using PrimeRCM to develop return on investment metrics for health informatics and develop new ROI models.

- Health Informatics Research, using PrimeResearch to enhance the existing course by providing evidence-based studies and clinical trials in masters programs to gather, store, retrieve and analyze data through real-time availability.

- Project Management for EHRs, the practical application and understanding of the intricacies of project management combined with the implementation of EHRs.

- Healthcare Process Analysis, a partnering of graduate students in the nursing fields to gain informatics knowledge through systems management and technological processes.

- HIT Seminar, using clinical and human patient simulations to create a problems-based virtual medical center for hands-on exercises using a fully-functional EHR system to show how technology integrates with patient care.

"The Greenway Medical Technologies gift represents a major step forward in the curriculum of the Health Informatics graduate program in the College of Informatics,? said Douglas Perry, dean of the College of Informatics. "Tee Green and his colleagues, understanding the future of healthcare delivery and recognizing the potential of Northern Kentucky University's health informatics initiative, have generously offered their support for the betterment of all.?

About Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc.

Greenway Medical Technologies Featured in Health IT Innovators Book

Center for Health Transformation Book Includes Chapter on the Integration of Greenway's Clinical Research Solution within PrimeSuite EHR

February 24, 2010, Carrollton, Ga. ? Paper Kills 2.0: How Health IT Can Help Save Your Life and Your Money, is due out today by the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Health Transformation.

The book is the Center's sixth overall and details recent gains and needed improvements in healthcare information technology, into which Greenway was invited to detail its leading quality, research and public health solution PrimeResearch®, which is integrated within Greenway's single-database electronic health record (EHR), practice management and interoperability solution PrimeSuite®.

Greenway's chapter, titled "Electronic Health Records and Clinical Research: A Timely Collision,? was authored by Greenway President Tee Green and Director of Research and Outcomes Jason Colquitt.

"Since we began in 2003, the Center for Health Transformation has passionately advocated the adoption of modern tools to deliver better care at lower costs. As this new book shows, innovators are developing exciting technologies every day that will transform health. Greenway is showing a critical next step of integrating the capabilities of electronic health records with clinical research. This will bring more providers and patients into the latest pharmaceutical, device and surgical research which will speed breakthroughs to patients,? said former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, founder of the Center for Health Transformation.

The chapter details how PrimeResearch integrates with PrimeSuite to streamline and expand provider and patient participation in pharmaceutical, surgical and medical device clinical research.

PrimeResearch allows providers to easily identify patients who might benefit from a clinical research study by using the patients information that has already been collected through PrimeSuite for routine patient care. Once consented for a study the patient's information can easily be pre-populated into the case report forms typically used to collect data throughout the study, thus saving providers much of the time that is normally spent on duplicating that data to the silo-ed healthcare and research worlds.

The overall ability to succeed is based on the types of standards-based data capture and exchange functions Greenway has developed in coordination with the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC), Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) and the Health Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP).

"Greenway is one of the first EHR providers to utilize the recognized Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel clinical research standards which merge clinical study capabilities with EHR functions,? said Greenway Director of Research and Outcomes Jason Colquitt. "Working with interoperability and standards organizations has, and will, continue to advance healthcare gains and patient outcomes in the future across the healthcare continuum.?

Center and Greenway Featured in USA Today; Center VP to Speak at Greenway Reception During HIMSS

The February 26-28 edition of USA Today includes a Health IT section in selected cities, and 30,000 copies are also scheduled to be circulated at the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference in Atlanta beginning March 1.

The section includes an adapted version of the book's forward as an op-ed by Gingrich and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, as well as meaningful use and EHR thought leader content by Greenway. Center Vice President Wayne Oliver is scheduled to speak at Greenway's conference reception the evening of March 1.

The analogous-driven article by Gingrich and Daschle likens the advent of the automobile, computer and cell phone as transitional visions like electronic health records are to paper charts. They praise the Obama administration's inclusion of the HITECH Act within the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) as, "the very first healthcare reform of this presidency.? The authors highlight the comparison of the funding, scope and completion of the interstate highway system of the 1950s to the vision of a national health information network as its equal in the merging of public works and private enterprise.

The book has received noted recognition by Andrew C. von Eschenbach, M.D., former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, former Surgeon General David Satcher, former Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt, and Mehmet Oz, M.D., vice chair and professor of surgery, New York Presbyterian/Columbia University, among others.

"Electronic health records are ultimately about improved quality and better, more consistent outcomes,? said Justin Barnes, vice president of marketing, corporate development and government affairs at Greenway, chairman of the Electronic Health Record Association and IHE-USA board member, who was also asked to contribute insight on the book's merits. "This includes expanding research to bring new therapies to patients. I truly believe that this untapped potential will change how we develop and deliver better medicine. This timely and thorough book provides a powerful exploration of the technologies that can and will transform healthcare.?

Greenway Medical Technologies Advances Interoperability at Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) North America Connectathon

Greenway's Justin Barnes Appointed to Inaugural IHE USA Board of Directors

January 11, 2010, Chicago ? Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc., provider of the single-database, fully-integrated electronic health record (EHR), practice management and interoperability solution, PrimeSuite®, is participating within a series of more than a dozen public health, quality and clinical research interoperability testing events today through January 15 at the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) North America Connectathon in Chicago.

The IHE North America Connectathon ? part of the global IHE initiative ? strives to continue the creation of healthcare integration systems allowing medical practices, hospitals and other public and private healthcare institutions to quickly, effectively and securely share patient data. Greenway's participation is a precursor to the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Interoperability Showcase as part of the HIMSS10 conference scheduled March 1-3 in Atlanta.

Along with Greenway's participation in IHE interoperability testing during the five-day Connectathon, Greenway Vice President of Marketing, Corporate Development and Government Affairs, Justin Barnes, is joining the inaugural board of directors of IHE's North American division, IHE USA. Barnes also serves as chairman of the national HIMSS Electronic Health Record Association (EHR Association).

"I am honored to be asked to help launch this critically important board of directors' initiative,? said Barnes. "The advancement of the seamless sharing of vital health information through standards-based and systemic interoperability across all applications, platforms and settings is key to health IT's shared goal of a national healthcare information network, which will also enhance the outcomes of advanced clinical research. Greenway has been and continues to be a leader in interoperability demonstrations and conferences as well as real-world interoperability deployments across the country."

In 2009, Greenway participated in seven national IHE events as well as state and regional initiatives such as the North Carolina Healthcare Information and Communications Alliance (NCHICA).

On the national level, in September for example, Greenway participated in the 2009 Public Health Information Network (PHIN) Conference sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), aimed at improving information exchange between medical practices and public health information systems. At PHIN, PrimeSuite's CDC-based immunization schedule and forecast module was showcased at an immunization demonstration where it interoperated with population-based Immunization Information Systems (ISS), a premier standards-based IHE Immunization Content (IC) profile.

At this week's Connectathon, using global IHE profile initiatives in conjunction with Health Information Technology Standards (HITSP) specifications, Greenway's PrimeSuite utilizes its Retrieve Form for Data Capture (RFD), for example, in public health and clinical research scenarios, which achieves the implementation of research integration into healthcare workflow and is an ongoing joint effort by IHE and the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC).

For maternal health testing, Antepartum Summary Exchanges (APS) are used in conjunction with Cross Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS), Patient Identifier Cross Referencing (PIX), Patient Demographics Query (PDQ), Audit Trail and Node Authentication (ATNA) and Antepartum Record (APR) capabilities, in a scenario transitioning the patient from an ambulatory to hospital labor and delivery setting. The APS data contained in PrimeSuite, for example, records and makes available critical stages and checkpoints during the expectant mother's pregnancy period. Through the APS, critical diagnoses, estimated due dates, previous pregnancy outcomes and related benchmarks are available for review during labor and delivery.

Other Connectathon testings entail the use of Emergency Department Referrals (EDR), Drug Safety Content (DSC), Retrieve Protocol for Execution (RPE), Clinical Research Data Capture (CRD) and other interoperability functions within the scenarios of Emergency Care, Chronic Care with Remote Monitoring, Biosurveillance, Immunization and other settings.

Greenway combines the EHR capabilities of PrimeSuite with its integrated PrimeExchange® interoperability engine to allow providers and all users to share for review and analysis clinical information that also streamlines companion administrative and financial information as well.

"These ongoing series of testing scenarios prove PrimeSuite's capabilities to our customers to continually achieve the standards and interoperability which are now at the heart of the new meaningful use proposals making their way to final regulation,? said Greenway President Tee Green. "This not only goes a long way toward the incentives within the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, but establishes the ability to provide quality exchange for Regional Extension Center, Health Information Exchange and Federally Qualified Health Center programs, and ultimately the integrated national healthcare network that will prove to be a benefit for patients and providers alike. We are pleased to take this board-level leadership role within IHE through Justin's appointment, as we look forward to the HIMSS10 showcases, and above all, the evolution of a fully-integrated and interoperable national and global healthcare system which IHE enables.?

Greenway Medical Technologies Deploys Integrated EHR, Practice Management and Interoperability Solution within Bethesda Healthcare System

Deployment of Greenway's PrimeSuite Enables Health Information to be Securely and Seamlessly Shared between Bethesda Memorial Hospital and Physician Practices Associated with Bethesda Healthcare System

December 28, 2009, Carrollton, Ga. ? Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc. today announced the deployment of its fully-integrated electronic health record (EHR), practice management and interoperability solution, PrimeSuite®,into Palm Beach County, Florida's Bethesda Healthcare System (BHS) and its flagship hospital, Bethesda Memorial Hospital. BHS operates the 401-bed hospital as well as specialty practices that include family practice, internal medicine, cardiovascular surgery, neurology and orthopedics.

BHS contracted with Greenway in an effort to connect all of its affiliated practices with Bethesda Memorial while streamlining the clinical, financial and administrative workflows throughout the organization. Twelve providers began utilizing Greenway's integrated and certified PrimeSuite during the initial implementation that took place in November with another 550 providers having the option to implement the solution through an endorsement agreement with BHS.

Along with deploying PrimeSuite, BHS will also utilize Greenway's PrimeEnterprise? to create an interoperable network through which patient information can be shared between the BHS practices and Bethesda Memorial. With PrimeEnterprise, practice managers, physicians and other care providers can securely and efficiently exchange patient information, from small billing issues to critical patient data, all in a safe, secure and timely manner. Additionally, PrimeEnterprise will allow each of the BHS practices to configure the enterprise system around their specific workflows and specialties while enabling BHS to consolidate individual practice billing operations through the PrimeEnterprise infrastructure.

Along with the workflow efficiencies expected through the use of PrimeSuite and PrimeEnterprise, BHS also plans to gain additional efficiencies through the deployment of PrimePatient®, which will allow BHS patients to benefit from the use of health IT as well. With PrimePatient, patients are able to request appointments online, complete registration and health history forms in advance, view lab results, interact directly with their care providers, request prescription refills and manage their personal health records (PHR) all through a secure patient portal.

?With the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) offering financial incentives for the meaningful use of certified EHRs, coupled with the improvements they will bring to our clinical, financial and administrative workflows, we felt it was the right time to invest in an integrated EHR, practice management and interoperability solution,? said Leslie Durham, CIO of Bethesda Healthcare System. ?Our goal is to create an integrated healthcare system throughout South Palm Beach County, where all physicians have access to the pertinent healthcare information that will enable them to better treat patients and improve the overall health of our community.?

?PrimeSuite will help facilitate the controlled sharing of data and patient information throughout the Bethesda Health System,? said Tee Green, president of Greenway. ?When healthcare providers like Bethesda implement and meaningfully use health IT solutions within their organizations, we move closer to achieving a nationwide interoperable healthcare system that ultimately will transform and improve population health on a national and global level. These investments and advancements made in the Boynton Beach community are most certainly a step in that direction.?

Greenway Medical Technologies' PrimeSuite 2011 Receives CCHIT 2011 Comprehensive Certification

EHR Solution Exceeds Proposed Federal Standards and Receives 5-Star Usability Rating

December 14, 2009, Carrollton, Ga. ? Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc. today announced that its flagship integrated EHR, PrimeSuite® 2011, is a pre-market conditionally CCHIT Certified® 2011 Ambulatory EHR, additionally certified for Child Health and Cardiovascular Medicine, with optional Advanced Reporting. Greenway's PrimeSuite 2011 achieved the higher level of two new 2011 certification designations offered by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®).

The CCHIT Certified 2011 Comprehensive program is differentiated from the Preliminary ARRA program by providing a rigorous, multi-faceted evaluation of integrated EHR functionality, interoperability and security. In addition, the products that achieve the Comprehensive level must also meet or exceed applicable proposed federal standards as they exist on the date of certification for certified EHR technology to support the 2011-2012 incentives under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). During the Comprehensive certification inspection, Greenway's PrimeSuite 2011 met or exceeded proposed federal interoperability, privacy and security standards which support achievement of meaningful use.

Greenway's 5-star usability rating is also the highest achievable designation within Comprehensive certification, which the Commission states is ?intended to serve healthcare providers looking for maximal assurance that the product will meet their complex needs, as well as support their achievement of meaningful use to qualify for financial incentives.?

The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) is an independent, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services since 2006 as an official certification body for electronic health records (EHR).

Achieving meaningful EHR use is an essential component in qualifying for the estimated $45 billion in certified EHR adoption incentives provided by the HITECH Act of ARRA. The HITECH Act provides up to $44,000 to eligible professionals under Medicare and $63,750 under Medicaid during respective five and six-year periods beginning in 2011.

?The incentives have the potential to accelerate adoption of EHR technology by office-based physicians and other eligible providers,? said Alisa Ray, the Commission's executive director. ?Health IT companies demonstrating their compliance with the proposed federal standards can now make available certified products to providers who wish to purchase and implement EHR technology and achieve meaningful use in time for the 2011-2012 incentives. Additionally, EHRs certified in the Comprehensive programs offer providers more assurance that an EHR will meet their needs.?

Computerized physician order entry (CPOE), formulary checks, e-prescribing, patient reminders, encounter progress notes, clinical summaries and the ability to provide lab results and surveillance data to public health agencies are some specific examples of meaningful use criteria.

?Greenway is pleased to be among the first to receive CCHIT 2011 Comprehensive certification as well as one of the first EHR products in the marketplace to achieve the highest 5-star usability rating,? said Greenway President Tee Green. ?Since our inception more than a decade ago, Greenway has been an industry leader in creating the most usable, interoperable and functional EHR in healthcare. We help to ensure the success of our customers by providing not only a certified EHR that can be meaningfully used, but more importantly, by providing an innovative, long-term business plan for practices and customers to optimize their revenue, seamlessly interoperate with their communities, manage their patients more efficiently and participate in the latest clinical trials and research.?

About Greenway Medical Technologies Inc.

Greenway Medical Technologies Enhances Advisory and Consulting Partnership Strategies with Regional Extension Centers

The Extension Program provides grants for the establishment of Health Information Technology Regional Extension Centers (Regional Centers) that will offer technical assistance, guidance and information on best practices to support and accelerate health care providers' efforts to become meaningful users of Electronic Health Records (EHRs).

- A study of 2,368 acute care institutions published by the Journal of Health Affairs in October and funded by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that facilities serving low-income patients have lower levels of EHR adoption than national averages, citing cost as the main obstacle of implementation.

- The Regional Centers will focus their most intensive technical assistance on clinicians (physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners) furnishing primary-care services with a particular emphasis on individual and small group practices (fewer than 10 clinicians with prescriptive privileges). Regional Centers will also focus intensive technical assistance on clinicians providing primary care in public and critical access hospitals, community health centers and in other settings that predominantly serve uninsured, underinsured, and medically underserved populations.

- Regional Extension Center grant awards are scheduled for three cycles: one in 2009 and two in 2010. REC applicants must provide details on how they will help providers with EHR vendor selection, system implementation, workflow design, interoperability issues, information exchange and provide on-site technical assistance to providers.

- Greenway Medical Technologies has launched a series of informational Regional Extension Center webinars to supplement an overview of the HITECH program and its provisions at www.greenwaymedical.com. Information on upcoming webinars and general information can be obtained by emailing REC@greenwaymedical.com.

November 17, 2009, Carrollton, Ga. ? Greenway Medical Technologies, a leading provider of integrated healthcare IT solutions, recognizes the scope and critical challenges of the federal government's goal to use the cohort of Regional Centers, in the national aggregate, to support more than 100,000 priority primary-care providers to achieve successful adoption and meaningful use of certified EHRs within a two-year period beginning in 2010.

Pursuant to the Public Health Service Act, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 authorized the HHS Secretary to establish a Health Information Technology (HIT) Extension Program. With $598 million in funding, approximately 70 HIT Regional Extension Centers will furnish assistance, defined as education, outreach and technical assistance, to help providers in their geographic service areas select, successfully implement and meaningfully use certified EHR technology to improve the quality and value of health care. The Regional Centers will also help providers achieve, through appropriate available infrastructures, the exchange of health information in compliance with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and patient preferences.

?What Washington ultimately wants is certified EHR systems that can exchange information nationally, regardless of the EHR software provider. Paramount also is ensuring that an EHR has the inherent workflow for point-of-care meaningful use along with demonstrating electronic prescribing, information exchange interoperability and reporting on measures using the EHR. We are working closely with REC applicants on these important criteria so they maximize their sustainability efforts,? said Justin Barnes, vice president of marketing and government affairs at Greenway Medical.

Systems compatible to HHS meaningful use criteria are also in the forefront. ?As the REC funding act itself states, ?The ultimate measure of a regional center's effectiveness will be whether it has assisted providers in becoming meaningful users of certified EHR technology,' ?added Barnes, who also serves as chairman of the HIMSS EHR Association and testified before HHS on meaningful use criteria that is expected by December 18th.

Under the act, each REC is eligible for funding ranging from $1 million to $30 million with an expected average of $8,543,000, for EHR implementation to service a minimum of 1,000 providers per contiguous geographic center, granted during two, two-year budget cycles of the initial four-year program. Additionally, under separate ARRA HIT incentives, providers are also eligible for between $18,000 - $25,000 beginning in 2011 for certified EHR adoption, with maximum incentives reaching $44,000 per eligible professional under Medicare and $63,750 under Medicaid.

Another critical aspect of the REC application process is showing future sustainability of EHR systems through in-kind gifts, service fees and other funding sources pursued by the non-profit operators of the RECs. ?We know the ONC is giving REC preference to medical societies, primary care associations, public health agencies and rural hospital and community health centers, but at the same time, any qualifying non-profit agency can apply. RECs can also work with and seek funding from established federal programs like the Indian Health Service (IHS), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), for example,? said Barnes. ?The point of consultation is showing all of these entities the key metrics of meaningful EHR adoption and how they can merge resources to not only achieve meaningful EHR use in their communities but also sustain their organizations for the long-term.?

About Greenway Medical Technologies Inc.
