Strategic Opportunity with Kentucky-based PrimaryPlus Marks First FQHC Sale
February 18, 2008, Carrollton, Ga. – Greenway Medical Technologies Inc., a leading provider of integrated electronic health record (EHR), practice management and interoperability solutions, announced today that it has completed a strategic sale in the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) marketplace. The deal, with PrimaryPlus of Lewis County, Ky., comes on the heels of a record breaking sales quarter and highlights Greenway’s continued expansion of services and solutions offered to the ambulatory and community-based healthcare markets.
The contract signed with PrimaryPlus opens the door for Greenway® to begin offereing its flagship EHR solution PrimeSuite to other FQHCs across the country. FQHCs received designation from the Bureas of Primary Health Care (BPHC) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). FQHC designation enables medical organizations like PrimaryPlus to receive grant funding and offer services to patients with limited or no healthcare coverage. Programs include sliding fee scales for the uninsured that reduce medical costs by up to 75 percent, as well as a pharmacy program that helps to discount rising pharmaceutical costs. FQHCs are also given privileged access to expensive children’s vaccinations guaranteeing that even uninsured children can receive the proper medical attention.
Another benefit of FQHC funding is that medical organizations like PrimaryPlus can purchase state-of-the-art health technology such as PrimeSuite, which helps the organization streamline its clinical, financial and administrative processes to offer the most effective care possible. To receive FQHC funding, the medical facility must be serving patients in what is considered to be a predominantly uninsured or medically underserved area. The FQHC must operate under a consumer board of director’s governance structure and provide comprehensive primary health, oral and mental health/substance abuse services to persons in all stages of their lifecycle.
PrimaryPlus is a 27-provider network with four main offices and 12 clinics serving patients in northeastern Kentucky and southern Ohio. The organization has 90 employees including physicians, nurses, billing staff and administrators, all of whom will be using PrimeSuite.
