Regional Extension Centers (REC)

Greenway Medical Technologies has an active partnering strategy with potential and approved Regional Extension Centers (REC) to provide a health IT solution to facilitate the meaningful use of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) in communities across America. We recognize that better healthcare does not just come from the implementation of our EHR solution itself, but through the exchange and use of health information to best advise clinical decisions at the point of care.

Our mission to aid primary care providers through this transitional period will improve the quality, efficiency and availability of care for even the smallest, most stretched physicians, rural hospitals, federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) or community health centers (CHCs). We anticipate our collective efforts will drive these improvements and the ultimate sustainability of the healthcare system.

Mobile point of care solutions, along with innovative applications, offer greater quality of care, improved access and optimized workflow as you make your transition to electronic health records. Intel mobile clinical assistant-based devices and Intel-based laptops offer a variety of solutions. Intel is passionate about how technology can improve healthcare worldwide. Learn how we help the healthcare sector deliver high-quality, cost-effective care.

What is a Regional Extension Center?

Section 3012 of the Public Health Service Act (PHSA) as amended by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Pub.L 111-5) directs the Secretary to establish a Health Information Technology Extension Program, including a Health Information Technology Research Center (HITRC) and Health Information Technology Regional Extension Centers (Regional Centers).

Regional Centers will deliver the outreach, education, and technical assistance services necessary to meet the objective of assisting primary care providers to improve the quality of care they deliver by attaining/exceeding meaningful use criteria and enabling nationwide health information exchange. On-site technical assistance will be a key service offered and will represent a significant portion of the Regional Center's activities. The HITECH Act clearly prioritizes access to this technology by historically underserved and other special-needs populations to achieve reduction in health disparities. Regional Centers are expected to work with both priority primary-care providers who have not yet adopted EHR systems, and with priority primary-care providers who have existing EHR systems. The Regional Centers will support at least 100,000 primary care providers through participating non-profit organizations.
