Going GreenThis year, Greenway is increasing our commitment to carbon footprint reduction to benefit our local community and play our part in global natural resources sustainability. Our environmentally-friendly ‘Going Green' campaign continues the company's well-known history of philanthropy and community involvement built upon the vision of founder Tommy Green when we opened our doors in 1998. "Greenway has always held a positive reputation of integrity and forward thinking throughout the Carrollton area, and we want to continue to be a role model as we grow nationally,” said Going Green Campaign Manager Laura Mendenhall. "Through a committed set of simple but environmentally-friendly actions, our company of more than 320 people can come together to maintain environmental responsibility.”
Strategies:
These steps collectively can have a major impact in time. For example, according to the Energy Star program of the U.S. Department of Energy, replacing low-output (60 to 100 watt) incandescent bulbs with CFL lighting increases the life of the bulbs tenfold and uses 50 to 80 percent less energy. Also, recycling one ton of paper (approximately 2,000 pounds) saves 7,000 gallons of water, is equivalent to saving enough energy to power the average American home for six months, and reduces green house gas emissions by one metric ton of carbon equivalent. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the average American worker uses 10,000 sheets of paper a year, which translates to four million tons nationally. We are Green in more than name only, and we know the Way to get there. |
